Crawling: Not Fun to Learn

Lately, I’ve been working with The Munchkin a lot more on his mobility. He didn’t like tummy time in the beginning, so it wasn’t a surprise that learning to crawl wasn’t high on his preferred list of games to play.

I would try to tempt him with a bottle, and it kind of worked, but he was still grumpy the whole time, and only moved via a combined army crawl/scootch maneuver.

After he had the bottle, (Note the bib is back on!) he was better, and willing to put some effort into crawling. Butt up…

Butt and chest up… Come on, baby! (I was cheering him and snapping pics the whole time, all while trying to keep Kipp out of my shot, lol!)

This one looks more impressive than it really is. While I would have loved to end this post with WE HAVE CRAWLING!!! this is actually him starting to roll over. 😦

Aaaaand, scene.

Lil’ Peeps Vintage Update

Thank you for indulging accidental “Colleen Week”. I know there has been a lot of “me” stuff going on, but I swear I’ll get back to The Munchkin posts this weekend. A girl’s gotta take time for herself, right?

First of all, I made my first sale yesterday, which was pretty great. The Munchkin and I went to the post office and sent the little Sailor Girl dress & hat off to it’s happy new home in California.

On Wednesday, my friend Corey Marie wrote up a nice blog entry about some projects/blogs/etc that her friends were doing, and she was sweet enough to include Lil’ Peeps Vintage in it!

Today, my 50s/60s “Diamond Friends Dress” was listed in an etsy treasury! I’ve never had anything listed in a treasury before, so this is very exciting for me. I can’t say I blame PugMug for including that dress; it is one of my favs.

EDiT: I need to keep up with my Google Reader; I missed this mention! Time to set up a Google Alert for Lil’ Peeps Vintage, y/y? My twitter friend, @WeeMasonsMom is always awesome at supporting me in whatever I do, and she wrote about the shop in her Featured Friday post. Thank you!
It’s been a busy week for my little shop. Now, I’m off to add a couple more items!

PS: I remade the wet bag giveaway post, because a lot of people DMed me on twitter and messaged me on facebook that they couldn’t comment. 😦 For some reason, it wouldn’t let people who had never commented on the blog before comment. So, if you wanted to enter to win the wet bag, please click here

TAKE TWO: Vote for me & Giveaway! #cp4vp

Top 5 finalists will be announced on Friday. Wish me luck!
I will also be picking the winner for the wet bag contest on Friday, so check back soon.

Apparently, the other post doesn’t like people commenting on it, because I’ve had a lot of people tell me that they couldn’t. I’ve never had a problem like this before, (well, that I’m aware of…) so OF COURSE it happens on the post I’m running a contest on! Grumble, grumble. Ok, so here is take #2:

I’ve declared my candidacy for VP of Pop Culture, and I need you to vote for me! Basically, popchips is looking for someone who knows what’s going on in pop culture, who also blogs, tweets, and spends too much time on facebook – which is me, right? 😀

Popchips is going to pick 3 finalists based on voting and 2 that they think are awesome. I know I can’t compete with the likes of Simon Rex (lololol) in terms of voting so I’m shooting for one of the two awesome positions. I figure, if I have at least 100 votes, that should make me stand out from the other 237 candidates, right? I’m already a quarter of the way to my goal…should I shoot for 200 votes??

Here is my entry video. My only regret is the resolution I saved the video at…and that I didn’t put more effort into losing weight before I filmed it. 😉 Who knew I looked so heavy driving????

(Now you see what my Wordless Wednesday pics were about!)

Because I wouldn’t just expect you to vote for me out of the kindness of your hearts, I have a giveaway for you! I have a large wet bag & two snack bags of popchips (BBQ & Cheddar flavored) that you can win!

Here’s how to win:

  • Main entry: vote for me and leave a comment saying that you voted. You must have a facebook account to vote, but it’s super easy – you don’t even have to “like” popchips!
  • Additional entry: You can vote once a day until the 9th, but you must leave a separate comment each time you vote. It only counts the vote after a full 24 hours has passed, so if you voted at 3pm, you can’t vote until 3pm the next day.
  • You can also gain another entry by tweeting one (or all!) of the following: “I want a Mommy Blogger as VP of Pop Culture! #cp4vp #popVP” or “I want to win this wet bag from @retrokitty! #cp4vp #popVP #clothdiapers” or “I want an Army Wife as the VP of Pop Culture! #cp4vp #popVP” Each tweet is good for another entry, just leave a different comment for each and make sure you put the URL to your tweet(s) in the comment.

ALL COMMENTS MUST INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. If I don’t have a way to contact you, your comment will be disqualified. You can vote & tweet once a day until the 9th – just make sure that you leave a new comment with your email address each time you do. I will pick a winner on the 10th. Thank you for voting!

Bag Stats:
14.5 inches wide x 17 inches tall
Outside is made with vintage fabric
Inside is made with PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) fabric
Red zipper closure

This is a good size wet bag. As you can see, it is about the size of a seated 8 month old. 😉 This is the size I keep in the nursery and put all of the diapers The Munchkin uses over the course of the day. It keeps the stink in, and at the end of the day, I can carry it down to the laundry room and dump everything in the wash!

Wet bags are not only great if you cloth diaper, but are also great for beach trips, or trips to the pool because you can put your wet clothes in them and not have to worry about getting the rest of your stuff wet! They’re also great to pack with your little kiddle going off to daycare; if they have an accident, the daycare workers don’t have to put their wet clothes in a plastic bag. Yay for being green!

Good luck everyone!

Old Giveaway URL. #cp4vp

I guess this post wouldn’t let most people comment? None of the comments that were submitted by people new to the blog went into my approval section, or spam folder, or anywhere else. They just stopped existing or something. Grrr.

Please, CLICK HERE TO ENTER THE CONTEST. Sorry for the confusion. 😦

The Academy Awards

Maybe because I would have liked to be here, or maybe I’m just that weird awesome, but I wanted to dress up while we watched The Oscars. So I dressed us up!

Did you watch? What were your fav parts? I liked learning that Chuck can sing! I’m still watching, so who knows, I might have more favs! I’m live tweeting, so if you want to follow my little comments, I’m @retrokitty.

Steppin’ Out Saturday

This Steppin’ Out Saturday has been brought to you by the busiest day I’ve had in a while. Whew it’s been a long day! With the sun rising earlier, The Munchkin is rising earlier too, and I didn’t get my nap! But, I wanted to get this up today, so I started working on it while waiting for John to sign on. It doesn’t look like he’s going to though. Oh well. Hopefully I’ll talk to him when he gets out of work.

Today, The Munchkin and I went to another Twestival meeting, which went well. I was given the task to find out info about getting in the St. Patrick’s Day parade and looking up to see if I could find a local company that would print us magnets to put on the doors of a car for cheap. (That would be our float, lol – a truck with some big magnets on the door, people walking with the banner in front of the truck, and people sitting in the back of the truck waving and stuff.)

Afterward, we picked up my friend Jessica, who is pregnant with her first child and due any day now! Well, her due date is in a couple weeks, but she could really pop at any time! Very exciting. I gave her the clothes that I bought her little miss and she seemed to like them. 🙂 We went to a thrift store near her house and I got a couple of things for the shop, and then we went to Moe’s for Mexican food. Yum yum yum.

After that, we headed to my house so I could show her the nursery, and then we went back to her house to drop her off, because it was getting late. The Munchkin was still wide awake though, so we went to Walmart to get a couple things. (He drinks more than 4oz of formula at a time now so I needed new bottles and we were running low on veggie baby food,  toilet paper, cat litter, and other odds & ends…) I also bought a yoga mat and an exercise ball, which I blew up when we got home. I mostly bought the exercise ball for The Munchkin, because I read about these activities you can do with babies at different ages with one, but he HATED the electric pump I used to blow it up. After, he was afraid of the ball itself, I think. I tried rolling him, and bouncing him, and while he looked like maybe he wanted to enjoy it, he was dead set on staying grumpy. Ah well, I’ll try again tomorrow.

Here is a close up of the doggie on The Munchkin’s shirt. I love this little top, but it will probably be the last time he wears it. As it was, I probably should have had him wear something else today…this was kinda tight. 😦 Goodbye, cute puppy in clothes shirt. I will miss you. You are now banished to the teeny clothes box.

Can I just say that I love this pin? I love it. I haven’t seen one quite like it before. It is like a little frame with embroidery inside of it. The flowers are so delicate. Love!

On Mama:
sweater: forever21 (thrifted)
shirt: H&M (thrifted)
cami: Old Navy
pin: thrifted
skinny jeans: Charlotte Russe
cowboy boots: L.E.I. ($5 Walmart clearance!)

On Baby:
shirt: Khols (I think?)
pants & socks: Walmart
shoes: Marshall’s (even though you can’t see them…)

Lil’ Peeps Vintage

Aaaah! I’m so excited! I’m opening an etsy shop, you guys! It’s going to feature mostly vintage kid’s clothes, some thrifted hand knit sweaters, and some goodies for the house. I’m going to launch the store on Tuesday, March first. I’m not sure what time though. 🙂

Today, I’m going to wash all the clothes I bought and prep them for photos, which I hope to take tomorrow. It is super snowy here today, so the lighting is pretty blah. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow! Here is a quick peek at some of the sweaters:

If you’ve got a keen eye, you might recognize that sail boat sweater from the pancake adventures post. I bought it for the shop, but decided that The Munchkin needed to be the owner of it. It’s so cute! Ha, so far I’ve only kept three of the pieces I’ve bought for the store, (one of which I used in the header photo above) which I don’t think is too shabby!

Are you excited for Tuesday? I am!

PS: The stuffed kitty in the header photo above was knitted as a gift for The Munchkin by my friend Marya. The Munchkin is giving it a kiss in the pic, so sweet! The kitty is *NOT* going into the store. 😉

Twestival Board Meeting

Yesterday, The Munchkin and I went to another Twestival board meeting. I’m sad that the group shot came out so blurry. The guy who took it even took two, and the other one was worse than this one! 😦

The Munchkin was pretty well behaved. Not as well behaved as he was the first time, but he couldn’t see as much, so that might have been why. Still, I got compliments on how well behaved he was, and how he didn’t make a peep, so I guess the babbles weren’t loud enough to reach to the end of the table! He kept dropping things though…over and over and over…and probably on purpose, which I could have done without. 😦 I’d try to hold on to the items too, or put my hand under it where it would fall, but it didn’t always work out. :-/

Everything with Twestival is coming together really nicely. It was cool seeing & voting on the poster designs and we tested out the hand stamp, which was more exciting than it probably should be:

I’m so excited! March 24th can’t get here fast enough! Which reminds me…I need to get a sitter!
